Naturally Curly Hair

(nat·u·ral) Naturally Curly Hair

1. Fixed or determined by nature; pertaining to the constitution of a thing; belonging to native character; according to nature; essential; characteristic; innate; not artificial, foreign, assumed, put on, or acquired; as, the natural growth of animals or plants... [1913 Webster]

Women everywhere are now learning to embrace something that we've literally HATED for years...our naturally curly hair (or naptural hair as it's sometimes affectionately referred to) and all that comes with it...the kinks, the fuzz, the coils, the poof...ALL of it! What is it about our nappy, coily tresses that puts such an awful taste in our mouths...so much so to the point that we actually applied one of the harshest of harsh chemicals or a smoking hot metal comb to our hair just to alter it and change the very chemical make-up of it?

It goes very deep my sistas, but not so deep that we cannot heal from the wounds and begin to love, cherish and proudly wear our natural, God-given crown. Many have already began to heal and many have healed from those deep-seated wounds of our early childhood - the "cuts" and "bruises" to our egos that came from the very ones that loved us the most...the ones who pressed us and relaxed us (although there is nothing relaxing about a relaxer) and told us how much prettier we were when our hair was "done".

But they have the same wounds and some go back to the MAIN source and root of it all. To find out more, I highly recommend reading "Hair Story : Untangling the Roots of Black Hair in America" to really get a good foundational understanding of how we came to start altering our natural hair.
